Celebrating the Arts and More This Saturday

CAS Winter Members

The CAS Winter Members Show featuring more than 100 pieces from member artists opens Saturday, November 22 at the CAS Arts Center, 46 Main Street, with a reception from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

The Catskill Art Society exhibition celebrates the winter season and its impact on our lives. The unique natural beauty of the season, the joy of the holidays, and the various (often humorous) ways we cope with the cold are depicted in all media by CAS member artists.

Southern Exposure, 12″ x 12″ oil on wood by Elise Freda

Later Saturday, Willow and Brown and Sugar Blossom Flowers will be introducing a special showing of Elise Freda’s work at 36A Main Street from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a reception featuring local fare.

Elise’s Callicoon studio is surrounded by nature: fields, trees, plants, sky, light and weather. These things continually inspire and inform her paintings and drawings. She begins with observation but Elise’s work is process oriented–she finds her image during the making of it. Abstraction is her intuitive choice as it evokes rather than tells–leaving some mystery.

Elise received her BFA degree from The University of New Hampshire in 1981 and has been exhibiting her work since then. She’s been reviewed in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Brooklyn Rail and other publications. Elise has upcoming solo shows in 2015 at Causey Contemporary Gallery in NYC, and the Catskill Art Society, here in Livingston Manor.
