Nurturing the spirit and beauty of Livingston Manor

In the Fall of 2000, Sullivan County resident Sandra Gerry
enlisted the help of Sullivan First, the Sullivan County
Chamber of Commerce and several civic minded local professionals
to create a significant beautification project that would
enhance the appearance of Sullivan County while building
a sense of pride and spirit in the community. The result,
Sullivan Renaissance, is a two-phase grant program designed
to provide communities with seed money that enables them
to compete in a beautification contest with the possibility
of winning a significant award for their town.
The Livingston Manor Renaissance Project was born in 2001
with the award of $1,000 from Sullivan Renaissance. The
first year's project included the creation of Welcome
to Livingston Manor signs with plantings at the entrances
to the community. This year, the Livingston Manor Renaissance
Project plans to broaden its project scope to include
a Main Street corridor project. The plan includes collaborating
with private building owners to improve facades, fill
empty storefronts, place planters and trash receptacles,
and install permanent plantings to improve the overall
appearance of the Main Street district.
